Originally slated for Feb. 2-4, the American Power Boat Association/Union International Motonautique-sanctioned V-bottom kilometer record attempt set up by Fountain Powerboats in Washington, N.C., for its purpose-built 40-foot canopied V-bottom powered by 1,900-hp Sterling Performance engines has been postponed. The news was announced in a press release from Iconic Marine Group, the parent company of Fountain, Donzi and Baja, this afternoon.
A new date has not yet been set.nnAccording to the release, “continued in-depth testing of powertrain components from Sterling Performance prior to installation have pushed out the on-water testing schedule.”
Fountain’s leadership had originally wanted to set a new V-bottom kilo mark prior to the Miami International Boat Show Feb. 15-18
“This event and process is good for the Fountain brand,” the release read. “We would like to go into Miami Boat Show with a new kilo record, but the most important thing is safety. Iconic Marine Group will not sacrifice safety in testing by our suppliers or by us just to make a date for a boat show, as advantageous as that could be for marketing.
